Giving Sadaqah (charity) is not only a great way to fulfill the needs of the poor, but also serves as a purification of the heart. Therefore, it is important to instill a sense of compassion and the love for charity in your children from an early age on.
To help you achieve this, I want to focus on three, hopefully original ideas to involve your entire family when giving Sadaqah. However, since they are all considered monetary charity in one way or another, it is important to let your family know that there are many ways to give what is called physical charity: like smiling at others or removing something harmful from the road, and that every good deed, no matter how small, is considered Sadaqah. The world is a book and those who do not travel read only a page.
When a monotonous year-round routine takes its toll on you and when the conscious yearning to bathe in the diversity that Allah has decorated this world with gently nudges you, it is time to officially slide into the holiday mood and enjoy the blessings, benefits and learning Allah (glorified and exalted be He) has placed therein. - How does the organisation we trusted with our zakat and sadaqa during Ramadan sustain itself post Ramadan?
- Do you continue to lend a helping hand to the cause you have supported during Ramadan?
Each one of us can play a positive and productive role to tackle the roots of poverty throughout the year. Continue reading →

In the days of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) and his companions, visiting the sick was not limited to relatives and acquaintances, but included
strangers and non-Muslims (remember the Jewish kid who served the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) and took the shahadah on his deathbed when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) went to visit him.) Continue reading →
