15 AYAAT. 15 PRODUCTIVITY POINTERS.
“If You should punish them-indeed they are Your servants, but if You forgive them- indeed it is You who is the Exalted in Might, the Wise” [5:118].
He had been crying all night…
repeating the same words…
over and over again…
peace and blessings be upon him.
This is the ayah the Prophet Muhammad once prayed with an entire night, repeating it in tears.
We might be productive in our actions, the visible ones, but how productive are our hearts? What do we really feel? What should we feel? It is said that if our hearts were pure enough, we would never get enough of Allah’s words!
We’ve been reading the Book of Allah , the direct words of our Lord to us, daily during Ramadan and hopefully even afterwards. Right?
But how did it make you feel? Did you get generally emotional by certain surahs; or did just certain verses which strike a cord? Be honest, did you know what to feel with EVERY ayah you have read so far? So how do we know what to feel with any given verse? Ibn Al Qayyim gives us basic guidelines to help us even if we lack thorough knowledge of tafseer. He says that:
- If a verse speaks of Allah’s favors upon you, His names, His attributes…then it is Love that should fill your heart.
- If a verse speaks of Allah’s mercy, forgiveness, the people of Heaven…then it is Happiness, Comfort, and Hope that should fill your heart.
- If a verse speaks of Allah’s wrath, punishment, destroyed civilizations…then it is Fear and Worry that should fill the heart.
Imagine if you start FEELING these emotions in your heart, your actions will follow!
